face2face
Improving communication between you and your teen
Available spots
Service Description
The face2face course is suitable for all parents, not just those experiencing difficulties. It aims to help one parent and one child (12 upwards) to improve their communication and increase mutual understanding of some of the areas that may be having a negative impact on the way they relate to each other. What’s in it for the young people? 1. It is an opportunity for them to be properly ‘heard’ by their parent. To have a safe place where they can express their points of view in controlled exercises. 2. On completion of the two sessions, they receive an Advanced Communication Skills certificate that can be added to their academic portfolio. 3. They will have the experience of taking part in an online workshop, which can be a talking point in interviews. The sessions consist of one parent and one teen (12 upwards) engaging in lots of 121 exercises with each other. There will be other parents and teens on the sessions too, but the teen does not have to appear on screen and all the exercises they do are with camera and mic off, so nothing embarrassing! The course is two sessions delivered across two consecutive weekends. The Saturday sessions run from 10am to 12. You and your teen have to attend both sessions. The most important thing is that the teen wants to take part and is not pushed into it at all. If they are forced, it just doesn't work and they don't engage on the day. I've had quite a few parents wanting to join but if their child is not interested, unfortunately this course is not for them.
